Innovation Science Guidance Programme for pre-schools on Electricity

The Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) introduced the Innovation Guidance Project for Pre-schools in 2014 with the aims of engaging pre-schools to explore less conventional approaches to develop or re-design programmes and to improve teaching and learning practices.

The Electric Corner which was conducted by Science Centre Singapore for the past two years with more than 70 participating pre-schools will not be available in 2016 onwards. However, we are pleased to offer a similar programme under the Innovation Science Guidance programme for pre-schools that have missed the opportunity to be a part of the ECDA project.

This programme trains teachers on inquiry-based methods to develop students’ creative thinking and curiosity using hands-on activities. With Science Centre’s electricity kit, K1 students will learn about basic electricity and notions such as light, motion, and sound. K2 students will delve deeper into electricity by learning about electronics, sensors and basic computing and robotics.

Three intakes will be made available for registration as follows:

Intake: April, May and June 2016
Duration: Each intake takes about 3 months to complete
Participant per centre: 2
Fee: $1500 per centre (Includes 10 sets of the ‘Let’s Explore’ Electricity Kit)

Sample schedule of the programme

April Start of 1 full day workshop
Mid April writing and submission of lesson plan
May Implementation of lesson plan
End May Half day workshop to review progress
End June Half day workshop to share the learning outcome of the programme
